Meet Darvie

Darvie Fenison is the senior pastor of East Somerset Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky. Under his 23 years of leadership, the church has experienced tremendous success and has been a catalyst for much Kingdom growth. Darvie is passionate about leading his staff and congregation in their walk with Christ and encouraging folks to live the gospel of Jesus, taking His love into a lost and dying world.

Darvie has been in full time ministry for 44 years. Prior to pastoring ESBC, he served as pastor, missionary church planter to Albania, evangelist and Bible college & seminary president. Throughout his ministry, Darvie would begin each week with early Sunday morning one-on-one time with God and his guitar—worshipping and singing about God's grace in his life. Today, Darvie extends that worship by actively serving in the church's praise band and music ministry. While it's no small task for a senior pastor of a vibrant & growing church to be involved in the music ministry, Darvie uses music as a personal expression of worship to God and as a way to communicate God's love to others.

Darvie is married to Myra. The two met in their Beaumont, Texas junior high school. He enjoys joking of how Myra—friend, head cheerleader, homecoming queen—was the standard and prayer that he—National Honor Society President, debate team, choir member—used for the person he would someday like to meet and marry.  God, as He so often does, exceeded his wildest expectations and blessed him with his model. They have two children, Dustin and Devin, and enjoy spending time with their eight grandchildren, Wyatt, Cliff, Lincoln, Soren, Dylyn, Judah, Cohen and Yva.

A Note From Darvie

I have been privileged to serve in full time ministry for 44 years. From music director, youth director, pastor, missionary to Albania, president of a Bible college and seminary, to the last 23 years as senior pastor of an awesome church in Somerset, Kentucky, my life has been full and blessed. Music has been a huge part of that journey.

Solitary Place is a project that spanned several years. Working with Kenna and Kerry West, we wanted to produce a work that would first and foremost honor our Savior. We also wanted to affect multiple generations with our message, including those who have crossed our paths and those who will experience our music for the first time. I told them that I wanted the music, the message and the background vocals to be so great that nobody would even notice the soloist; we laughingly and prayerfully began.

There was the tedious and really careful selection of the songs- some fresh and renewed timeless classics, and others new, powerful originals. The prayer was that every song in some way would take the listener into the presence of God and let Him whisper His truth to their hearts. The title of the project and title cut was Kenna West’s Solitary Place. It reflects our goal: We hope that whether driving down the road or listening at home, people of all ages and walks of life will find this music a solitary place where the God of heaven will meet, touch. heal and minister.

Some of the best musicians in Nashville molded the tracks under Kerry and Kenna’s gifted direction. Then, friends and acquaintances—Jim and Melissa Brady, the Booth Brothers, Terry Franklin and Stephen Hill, Paul Lancaster, Reggie and Lady Love Smith, and Kenna and Kerry West—contributed off-the-chart background vocals.

With a lifetime of music and several years of work on this effort behind us, I am excited to present this music to you. My prayer is that God will take it, bless it, and minister to each listener.  There are so many needs, and in His presence is the answer to them all. Thank you for taking to time to listen. I pray that the journey will be fun, encouraging, convicting, life changing and a blessing—not because of the music itself, but as a result of the Lord you find in it.

God Bless!
